Kid's
Creations wants to ensure you that the lumber you are getting with
your swing set is not only top quality and durable but supplied
in a way that is friendly to our environment.
We only use suppliers that follow these criteria:
- They harvest the lumber from their own lands
- They replant and reforest the harvested area.
Sustainable Forestry
Kid's Creations purchases only from suppliers that have made
the following commitment to sustainable forestry:
- To practice sustainable forestry to
meet the needs of the present without
compromising the needs of future
generations.
- To use and promote sustainable forestry
practices that are economically, environmentally
and socially responsible.
- To protect forests from wildfire, pests,
diseases and other damage and to
maintain and improve long-term forest
health and productivity.
- To manage lands of special significance,
whether biological, geological, cultural
or historical, in a manner that takes
into account their unique qualities.
- To comply with federal, state and
local forestry and environmental laws
and regulations
Q. Does the lumber Kid's Creations uses
come from sustainably managed forests?
A. Yes. Each year, our suppliers harvest less than 2 percent of
their forests. This means that any particular forested area is
disturbed only once every 50-70 years. The rest of the time, 98
percent of the forest is growing, providing shelter for wildlife,
protecting waterways and producing clean air for the atmosphere.
Q. What happens to the land after Redwoods are
harvested?
A. After harvest, lands are promptly replanted or managed to ensure
that redwood forests are renewed. California regulations require
that forests are renewed. Because our suppliers harvest from their
own lands, they make certain that healthy new forests start quickly.
Not all wood is created equal. Mother Nature has her own plan when it comes to her offspring and tree lumber can be found in many shapes, sizes, degrees of strength and natural resistance to rot, decay and insects. When building the framework for an outdoor swing set or play set it is important to use only the most durable, resistant and hearty lumber on the market to ensure your swing set is the safest it can be.
Two kinds of wood are often suggested for building outdoor swing sets, redwood and pine. Each type is broken down into sub-categories such as white pine and con heart redwood. Though pine is a sturdy wood that offers terrific stability and longevity it is not naturally resistant to rot, decay and insects and therefore has to be pressure treated before construction and will also require yearly maintenance including costly wood and stain finishes as well as specific chemicals to keep insects and wasps from nesting on the beams.
At Kids Creation we firmly believe in the superiority of redwood for all of our swing sets and play sets. Redwood is a preferred lumber for outdoor decks and swing sets. Redwood comes in several commercial grades for different types of construction and time has proven that redwood is the best option for a kids swing set. With its strong grade, unmatched durability and natural resistance to decay and insects redwood is the best choice for building an outdoor swing set.
The advantage redwood has over other commercial lumber is its natural resistance to decay. Through winter snow and sleet, spring showers, summer heat and intense UV light redwood will stand the test of time and hold firm even under adverse weather conditions. The other benefit to using redwood is the lack of maintenance required to keep the wood in shape. Unlike pressure treated pine or other lumber redwood does not need to be treated with chemicals or finishes to keep the wood reserved. This wood preserves itself and is therefore ideal for an outdoor swing set or play set.
