Not only do these particular woods have a natural resistance to rot and decay but hardwood construction allows for interlocking wood planks that are safer than metal clamps, bolts and screws.

With wood as your frame you can then plan the layout of your swing set. It's a good idea to leave room on a set for additions. If you build a swing set for toddlers they will quickly outgrow the infant swing seats and will want more challenging features. With an open design you can leave yourself options for adding custom accessories as kids get older.
