It’s so true that necessity is the mother of invention. Just ask my son Tanner. You see, Kid’s Creations was really his idea.

A few years back the two of us were sitting at the kitchen table, where most families do their best thinking. I was working on a list of possible business ventures to explore, after deciding to spend the rest of my life doing something I really enjoyed. Tanner was helping me. He was seven at the time. And as you all know, seven year olds are a lot smarter than we are.

I’ve always liked to build things–and am pretty good at it–so most of the ideas on my list had to do with using my hands. Tanner mentioned that he and his sister Taylor could use a swing set. “Why don’t you put making children's swing sets on your list, Dad?” he asked. A lot of people already make children's swing sets, I thought. I’ll just go out and buy one.

But I couldn’t find the right swing set: One that was made of fine, untreated wood. Hand-crafted. Easy to customize. Simple to assemble. And versatile enough to inspire infinite creative play. So I made Tanner and Taylor a swing set. And they loved it. Then I threw away my list and began figuring out a way to make swing sets for other kids, too. Like yours.
